Studio brief 3: Visiting speakers

The two students who won the position of designing the branding for the end of year exhibition at LCA came to present their concept to us today and talk us through their process. This was helpful as it allowed us to see the different components that need to be considered when branding an exhibition and how important the feedback is on the journey.

feedback is a lot harsher and more to the point when working with people outside of uni (companies) http://www.peterandpaul.co.uk/

Concept
- LCA and peter+paul
- take aims from the brief and make them your own
- should reflect essence and purpose of our end of year show
- must be innovative and have a strong visual identity
- concept should be as creative and eye-catching as possible

Research
- previous LCA shows
- looked at previous shows and took what they liked about it to make posters and then made it more visually creative
- the name gives a snapshot of the concept and creative thoughts
- use the feedback to develop ideas and continue research

Development
- finding ways to encapsulate everyone in the college and what everyday college entails, making it more personal
- the scale of this idea was too big and unmanageable between just two people
- they wanted to include the college brand values (student-centred, creative communications, critical thinking, professional and progressive)

Developed idea
- EXTRAORDINARY (experience, people, ideas, memories, fun, work)
- holding the objects shows that they are proud to be part of LCA, took inspiration format the Nike AirMax day advert

Design

- hierarchy was something that was considered important
- figure out the importance of each element and its importance on the poster (visual imagery, logo, dates+times etc.)
- colour swatch and why
- typeface used and why

Further application
- on walls because it needs to compete against the bricks, graffiti and other art/posters
- the strong visual identity meant that 4 different posters could be printed and they were strong enough to stand alone and still be recognised
- how it may look on the LCA website
- not so keen on printed invites, so need to mock-up email ones
