The 'Public Spaces Poster' to celebrate Leeds Print Festivals Exhibition is successful in advertising the date and venue it was held at and also as working as a print memorabilia. The design appears celebratory in tone due to the choice of colours used. The colour scheme was also chosen to subjectively represent the event, Leeds Print Festival as it will be a well known colour scheme to those that are interested by the particular event. Although the colours are taken from the official branding of the Leeds Print Festival, they are bright and bold which would suggest a sense of celebration and positivity.
The design subjectively represents each of the artists in the exhibition, by taking a mark from each of their works in attempt to capture their individual style and approach to design. The decision to include the logo and date adds some objectivity to the A3 poster and shows that the design is representing the particular event and location.
The design is screen printed, a traditional process that is suitable as it allows for a colourful image to be printed by hand with the various layering becoming more interesting due to the overlapping of colours. It would have been interesting to have used two traditional print methods to produce the final outcome, potentially embossing the logo onto the page so that it stands out as a separate element more so.
To further develop the design concept, a series of unique prints could be made of the same design. The restriction of the brief allowed for only one poster to be produced, but as the poster does have a level of subjectivity, it would be interesting to print a series of various colour combinations. The changing of colour combinations may further highlight the influence that the interesting creative scene has on Leeds, but also would represent the process of screen printing and how each print is slightly different to one another.
