OUGD404: Design board planning

LAYOUT
- professionalism is achieved when there is a grid system applied to the piece of Graphic Design
- consistent layout to be achieved and a sense of identity can be created
- Marber grid and all of the visuals are within the boundaries set
- modular grid for Pantone booklet
- V&A poster was designed using a column grid

TYPE
- typeface can significantly change a piece of work and the meanings that it could be portraying
- V&A logotype is based on the typeface Bodoni
- Penguin books were designed using Helvetica as the typeface
- Gill Sans on the back of the book cover was because it was the original typeface to be used on the London Underground Map
- to improve I would have used Gill Sans on the front cover so that a level of consistency is maintained throughout.
- Helvetica Neue for the Pantone booklet

FORMAT
- printing the Pantone booklet, the consideration of material is important
- tracing paper as the front cover needed to be improved by using acetate in the final design
- initial design had a number of blank pages, something that could have been avoided if design in a software more appropriate
- binding method decided on was stab stitch binding
- Pantone book and the V&A poster was that the pages would need to be printed on a paper size that was larger than the final print so that full bleed could be achieved
- V&A poster needed to be high quality so that it wouldn’t pixelate when printed to an A1 scale
- the poster is printed onto Tyvek paper

COLOUR
- CMYK is the colour system used in printing, a subtractive system where the colours darken as more are added
- RGB is an additive colour system which uses pectoral light in different combinations to create colour
- final outcomes for this module are printed, so CMYK was the format used
- Yves Klein created IKB in 1957, a shade of blue used in many pieces of graphic design
- colour schemes can be taken from any inspiration or surrounding
- mundane image emphasises the idea that colour schemes are all around us
- Pantone is a colour matching system which allows for designers to very specifically identify the colours used within their work

- the colour scheme is various shades of pale pink to match the V&A logo
