Food Innovation - Meeting with the Rotarians

Tuesday 28th August 2018
Having travelled up the night before to Nottingham, I was ready for the meeting early on the Tuesday morning over in Newark. This was a really valuable experience as I was able to meet the team and also understand more about how the Rotarians can come into a project like this in terms of funding and promotion.

Summarising to Misha (was unable to attend the meeting)
"It kinda became apparent that the focus was on the idea of using stuff in new ways to make it more efficient and also produce less waste overall.

Our job for now is figure out a brand because without a brand idea and concept then it is something that won’t get funding. So everyone is going to have a think I believe but we need to think about names, concepts and ways we can maybe brand the overall idea of using things in a new way.

So if we can think of lots of names that kind of link to this idea that would be a fab starting point. Then we are going to meet again in Leeds in September!!

If you come up with anything at all just let me know because it might spark some ideas and I’ll do the same with you. Although I think you might be better at this particular part of the brief."

Meeting reflection

The presentation of the topic to this Rotarian team - seemed to highlight we
We’re using a “spray and prey “ approach and needed more focus

So taking the point the Grenville made on food waste - I can see that we could use this approach, based on the whole supply chain “field to fork”

So just focussing on supporting this from the UK, by providing information, technical help, new techniques, new technology etc

Helping reduce waste in production and storage of crops and produce, and helping with advice / expertise and new technology for extending shelf life of finished products

Along with helping find ways of using the co products (waste) from crops or food production (like bran from rice)
