Shadowlark - Initial ideas

Logo

In terms of the logo designs, the typeface inspiration was from the 80s EDM scene and the sine wave as the visual to pull it all together and represent the bands love of 80s synth music. Rather than using a typeface I decided to manipulate one I the way that suited the style I was aiming for. I looked at the different ways in which it could be cut up so that it looked like neon piping – an aesthetic associated to the 80s EDM scene. This custom typeface would then be placed to work with the sine wave that research showed to be an appropriate visual reference to the music genre.

Taking the word ethereal and looking at the different ways in which it could be explored for an event.

1.
This first idea takes the idea of symmetry in body language but no matter how similar you may think, there are delicate differences in everyone. This represents the idea of using 80s synth as a very strong influence but as a band reproducing something new. This idea looks at body language within photography and then illustrative lines emphasise the differences and flow of movement, in a delicate manner. The light part of the ethereal meaning is achieved through the use of a very light coloured line of a low weight.

2.

This initial idea focuses on the idea that the band are a ‘new twist’ on something old and the hypnotic visual and pastel colours work to refer to the ethereal beauty.

3. Based on the idea that ethereal is based on something thought not to be of this world, I thought that more of a space/world influence could be an interesting approach to take with the designs. I took a design style that suited that of the visual references that the band supplied and also the style of a lot of music/event posters that are currently trending.

Upon reflection and feedback the third design style was strong, but the concept of the the first idea was the strongest and most reflective of it being a poster for a music event. It would be good to take the two concepts to development.
