Micro-genre: Distortion experimentation

As an experimentation development I thought it would be interesting to test the different levels of distortion that could be applied to the final illustrations. Japanoise music is about distortion of sounds, randomisation, electronic influences, discomfort etc. so scanning in the illustrations as a form of manipulation seemed appropriate to try.

The images show the variations that can be achieved when the printed illustrations were moved as the they were being scanned. I was hoping to achieve the colour distortion that usually happen with scanning manipulation, but instead the images just became signed in new ways which looked effective.

I think despite some of the outcomes looking interesting, it adds another element to the concept that takes away the emphasis and the purpose could be lost. The viewer needs to be able to look at the illustrations, find them aesthetically pleasing on the surface and then when analysing feel discomfort caused by the fusion of the different products/flavours.
