Micro-genres: Big Hero 6 research

Research into Japanoise has shown that there is a big influence from North America, pushing the country after the war to increase production and make money. This relationship is also a big part of the Japanoise music scene and is described to have"an intricate historical relationship with the United States, through which Japan has been constructed as an anti-subject of Western Modernity".

The recent film 'Big Hero 6' has animated a hybrid of San Fransico and Tokyo very successfully. Iconic buildings from both of the cities have been included, without taking the emphasis away from the American ones. The lighting reflects Japan very clearly and as the audience we instantly see the pink and white glow to be the cherry blossom that is heavily associated with Japan.

The fictional city is called 'San Fransokyo', keeping familiar landmarks such as Embarcadero and Coit Tower, but the close-ups of the streets recall Tokyo's Shimbashi, Kanda and Ueno districts.
