Astro-Beat Collective: Screen Printing

The Collective are focused on looking for ways to ensure that they make their money back that they have put into the event and ideally make a profit. The posters will be sold at the event for £2, but there will be around 5-10 screen printed posters which will be sold fro a bit more and maybe given away as prizes just to help build up the promtotion of the event in order for more tickets to be sold.

As a production method screenprinting is a long process but it is cost effective for the Collective to produce something that is unique and more desirable. It has been decided that the posters will be A3 in size

Screenprinting is a layering printing method which usually would only work well with a maximum of about 5 colours, this print has 2 so it will be fairly easy to set up. The design is fairly intricate, so some of this may be lost when printed. In order to try to eliminate the problem of alignment, registration marks have been included as part of the printed template that will be exposed.

Layer 1 will be printed in red first and then layered over the top layer 2 will be printed in black. In order to produce a screen print that is similar to the digitial design, the black ink will need to be made to be slightly opaque so that it does not transfer as a block colour on top of the red.

Jasper Cole from the Collective wanted to be part of the screen printing process in order to document the process, allowing it to become part of the promotion process for the event. There was a large number of instagram posts and Facebook status' on this process in order to promote the event, but also inform the audience that there will be limited edition posters for sale at the event itself. We decided to make the main colour of red slightly more vibrant as this would work better as a screen printed outcome. We made around 12 posters as it would allow for us to choose the most sucessful ones to sell at the event. We were very happy with the outcomes and received alot of postive feedback on the designs.
