Superfly: Typography

Research revealed that the typography for this particular type of music event was a big part of the visual identity. Watching the trailer for Superfly allowed me to take some screenshots in order to see which typefaces were used and the different colour schemes that appear. The initial screenshots were of the main title, appearing in a wired manner, almost glowing. This was an interesting approach as it does not fit with the films artwork that has since been released. Neon lighting is something heavily associated with the 3 music genres and time periods in which they are from. This deconstructed approach to the lettering may be something that I consider applying to a design development in my work.

The trailer then used another typeface for the credits, which was very distinct in style. Taking the screenshot of this typeface and placing it in Adobe TypeKit allowed for the identification of the exact one or something similar. I was then able to find two typefaces (Soap-Regular and Cooper Std) that could be used as part of the design developments.

Soap-Regular

Cooper Std
If the title on the poster is to adopt a very similar design style to the original Superfly, the text with the information may not work in either of these typefaces as they are similar and may be too confusing.
