Micro-genres: Merzbow (Masami Akita)

Merzbow (Masami Akita) is best known for his harsh, confrontational noise and has released over 400 recordings.
- born in Tokyo
- likes psychedelic music, progressive rock, free jazz (all of an influence now)
- distortion, feedback, noises from synthesizers

The name Merzbow comes from the German dada artist Kurt Schwitters' artwork Merzbau, in which Schwitters transformed the interior of his house using found objects. The name was chosen to reflect Akita's dada influence and junk art aesthetic.

junk art
If I was to focus this brief on representing Merzbow as an individual musician, the focus could be on the roots fo his name and early inspirations.
- junk based installation
- lights set up to respond to the sounds of his music, causing a flash each time a sound is made
- filming of the lights bouncing off of the installation to represent the Japanoise without actually having any sound
