Micro-Genres: Japanoise

In order to select a micro-genre of music, we were advised to use the website www.everynoise.com as it is a website which has the name of every music genre that is on Spotify. I spent some time scrolling through as a lot of them I did recognise and some I did not enjoy at all. I came across JAPANOISE, a genre I liked the sound of but also the Japanese design style is something that I would like to research more into and potentially learn to design in the same way.

About
Japanoise is the noise music scene of Japan. Noise music is a category of music that is characterised by the expressive use of noise within a musical context. The music aims to challenge the conventional musical practices between musical and non-musical sound.
- acoustic
- electronic
- traditional instruments
- unconventional instruments
- live machine sounds
- vocal techniques
- processed sound recordings
- computer generated noise
- distortion
- feedback
- emphasis on high volume levels

It first emerged as a genre in the 1980s, circulating cassette tapes which were traded between fans in Japan, Europe, and North America. The scene is present in Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo and there is lots of research questioning to what extent Japanoise is actually Japanese.
