Astro-Beat Collective: Social media

The social media needed for the Collective was Facebook based. The Collective asked for the designs to follow a similar visual to the poster in order to maintain consistency, but the profile picture needs tone designed in a way that can then be adopted for each individual event that the collective may organise and hold.

Developments

A screenshot from the Collectives group chat showed that they wanted the profile picture to have a coloured or patterned background in order to make the social media page stand out and help to build their identity and recognisability as a Collective. The first response to this was to place the artwork that was used on the poster as the background for the logo. I uploaded this alongside a banner with the same background. This was too similar, so changed the banner mohave a plain background colour. I quickly realised that this was defeating the purpose of the Collective hosting an event - they had separate identities. 

To resolve the identity confusion, the background was made plain behind the logo for the profile picture and then the banner has the artwork that was used on the poster. This confirmed the difference between the two elements. The Collective gave some feedback suggesting that the banner could be half artwork and half solid colour in order to improve the readability of the text about the event. By doing this to the banner, the sizing of it was more important as it needed to appear as designed. The screenshot above shows what happened when the dartboard was too wide and not high enough for the Facebook format. This was resolved and the final design can be seen above.
