When researching into photography of Sapa, I found Daniel Korzeniewski who is a photographer from Argentina. I was initially drawn to his work because he was able to capture Sapa during a season that I did not visit, March - May. Research into his approach to photography allowed me to discover that his work focuses on capturing the essence of places, the souls of people and the world as it is through his eyes. This is important in Sapa as there is a lot to discover about the place through the people that live there and the cultural beliefs that they still allow to strongly influence their daily activities. Daniel holds a 'Hanoi to Sapa Travel Street Photogrpahy Experience' a limited times a year, making these photos more appropriate for me to use because as a backpacker, the photos are about a journey and capturing the experience.
The work of 'Hean Kuan Ong' interested me as it was presented in black and white. One of the main features of Sapa is the vibrant colours of the rice fields, the food and the clothing of the tribal people. The black and white photographs published by Hean allow the focus to be purely on the subject of the photo, making the viewer envision what story is trying to be captured rather than just concentrating on the overall aesthetics of the colour.
I had a look at Sapa on instagram to try and see what others have interpreted from the place and people. Photos from personal accounts seemed to mainly be themselves with the views or the people that they have met there.
