Studio Brief 2: Rationale

Reading a full novel is something that is becoming less and less popular in a world of advanced technology. Websites are presenting text in a way that fits onto the screens of devices and shortening long passages into quick and easy to ready summaries, optimising convenience. The education system expects students to have an understanding on a large number of novels so that each exam can be completed. Having a set of really short summaries of novels would help to speed up the familiarity process and make the later revision much easier. The concept will be part of a series that can be collected, each case containing cards on different categories e.g. classic literature, crime, fiction …

Audio books are recognised to be easier than reading and time saving, so playing on this idea the sentences on the cards within the cassette tape case will act as the ‘audio books’; providing a short couple of sentences about each of the novels.

The target audience will be those currently in the education system, needing to get to grips with the plots of a large number of books. The idea of having it as a game where the cards need to be matched will make it a concept favoured by kinaesthetic learners, those who learn best by doing.

The clients will need the usage of the cards to be easy to understand and with the concept focusing on shortening processes, the game will have to make revising the plots of books shorter than just learning them without the game. The design will need to be engaging, but also not more distracting than the actual information itself.
