Guide Book - Identifying a subject

Brief: Identify an area of personal interest to research and gather visual and factual materials to form a guide book.

I started by mind mapping my main interests, fig.1.

I decided on the topic of travel as the subject for the guide book as it was the biggest part of my summer 2017. The places to choose from include:

Manchester
Parklife
The Northern Quarter
Whitby
Robin Hood Bay
Tom Bell's Lake
West Whittering
The beach
The Hinge at East Head Spit
Vietnam
Sapa
Hanoi
Ha Long Bay
Freedom Island
Ninh Binh
Hoi An
Ho Chi Minh City
Mekong Delta
Cu Chi Tunnels
Thailand
Bangkok
Koh Tao
Koh Samui
Koh Phanang
London
Shoreditch
Brick Lane
Clapham Common
Peckham
Brighton
North Laines
Seafront
Pier
Worthing

Chosen topic:
Travel guide for Sapa, Vietnam
Reason:
I chose to concentrate on only Sapa as it was the area in which I had the most traditional experience and the area in which I enjoyed learning about the most. Sapa was the place where I learnt about the true culture of Vietnam because I was lucky enough to travel with a Vietnamese family and their friends for 4 days. They allowed me to join in with their way of life, taught me about the culture and showed me lots of different places in Sapa. I was also able to gather a large number of photos and videos whilst in Sapa that I will be able to use as primary imagery for the guide book. I would like to use the guide book to share my experience and new knowledge on Sapa, it's people and the cultural beliefs that have influenced my life back home. I will need to continue my research so that I can make a decision on exactly what I want the content of the book to be.
